Dan Bustillos, JD, PhD

Dan Bustillos is an Assistant Professor of Health Care Ethics in the Albert Gnaegi Center for Health Care Ethics at Saint Louis University. He holds a secondary appointment in the Saint Louis University School of Public Health.
Dr. Bustillos was both an adjunct and research professor at the University of Houston’s Health Law & Policy Institute and has been an Institutional Review Board member for several years. He teaches courses in public health ethics, informed consent and surrogate decision-making, medical humanities, and cross-cultural understanding in the clinical context.
Dr. Bustillos’ research interests are broad though lately he’s been studying health disparities in health care and research, with recent publications in the Journal of Law, Medicine & Ethics, Genome Research and Society of Clinical Research Associates Journal dealing with these and similar topics. He is currently working on a multi-million dollar project based at Baylor College of Medicine to eliminate disparities in clinical trials.
