James DuBois, PhD, DSc

Director, Center for Clinical Research Ethics, Washington University Institute of Clinical and Translational Sciences

In addition to directing the CCRE, James DuBois is the Mäder Professor of Health Care Ethics in the Albert Gnaegi Center for Health Care Ethics at Saint Louis University (CHCE). He directs the CHCE's "Certificate in Empirical Research Methods," through which he regularly mentors PhD students doing research on research ethics. His own research interests currently include research ethics in mental health, ethics in organ transplantation, moral development and education, and empirical research on ethical issues.

Dr. Dubois's published works include a book, Ethical Research in Mental Health (New York: Oxford University Press, 2007), in addition to numerous peer reviewed articles and book chapters. His articles regularly appear in journals such as IRB: Ethics & Human Research, Journal of Empirical Research on Human Research Ethics, Journal of Clinical Ethics, Journal of Law, Medicine, and Ethics and American Journal of Bioethics; for a full listing of his recent works in research ethics, please see our research page here.

He serves on a National Institute of Drug Abuse Data Safety Monitoring Board and on the Institutional Review Board at St. Anthony's Medical Center, and is a regular scientific reviewer for NIH programs that address research ethics.
